Spicy Whiskey Garlic Shrimp

Spicy Whiskey Garlic Shrimp... mmm mmm mmm!

This dish centers on lots and lots of fresh garlic, Fuego powder (if you haven't made your own Fuego powder yet, feel free to sub with lots of crushed red pepper), and garlic scapes.

Have you ever had garlic scapes? If not, you're missing out - these beauties are quickly becoming my new favorite vegetable!

Garlic scapes are the curly tops of garlic bulbs, which have a mild but distinct garlic flavor to them. They can be used in stir-frys or soups...and they also make a great pesto!

Servings: 4, as an appetizer or 2 as an entree

1/4 cup olive oil
40 garlic cloves, sliced  (yes, 40!)
2 teaspoons Fuego powder (or crushed red pepper)
1 lb raw tail-on shrimp (I used 21-25 shrimp per pound)
1 tablespoon whiskey
Handful garlic scapes, cut into 2" lengths
Toasted baguette slices

1. Heat skillet to medium high heat and add oil, garlic, and Fuego powder. Saute until garlic is fragrant and generously browned.

2. Turn heat to high and add in shrimp in a single layer. Let cook on one side, then flip when pink - should be less than 1 minute per side.

3. Add in whiskey & garlic scapes and saute for 1 more minute.

4. Add S&P to taste and serve with grilled bread - enjoy!

Make sure you have lots of freshly grilled bread on hand - one of the best parts of this dish is sopping up all the flavorful oil at the bottom of the pan with some crusty bread!
